The Reed Flute Cave

One of the Amazing Caves of China

The Reed Flute Cave is a landmark and tourist attraction in Guilin, Guangxi, China. Reed Flute Cave is located in the hillside of Bright Hill of Northwest Guilin near the Peach Blossom River, about 7 km to the downtown. It takes about 50 minutes for exploring the cave. The cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside it, with which people makes flutes. This place is described as 'Art palace of Nature'.

Crystal Palace of Reed Flute Cave

It is a natural limestone cave with multicolored lighting and has been one of the Guilin's most interesting attractions over 1200 years. It is over 180 million old. It is filled with a large number of stalactites, stalagmites, and rock formations in weird and wonderful shapes. Inside there are more than 70 inscriptions written in ink, which can be dated back as far as 792 AD in the Tang Dynasty. The cave was rediscovered in 1940s by a group of refugees fleeing the Japanese troops. The cave is about 800 meter long, and illuminated with different colors of lighting.

Reed Flute Cave - Illuminated with multicolors

It is a chinese habitat to give names to each formation such as Crystal Palace, Dragon Pagoda, virgin Forest, Flower and Fruit mountain etc. Each of the formation has different colors of illumination and they add beauty to the caves. The Crystal palace where illuminated stalagmites reflect in the caves is the most impressive sight of the cave.
